G.H. Rothe (1935–2007), born Gatja Helgart Rothe in Germany, was a printmaker, painter, and draftswoman celebrated as a modern master of the mezzotint. Combining background training in goldsmithing, drawing, and anatomy, she developed pioneering printmaking techniques to achieve unprecedented color transparency, luminous detail, and rich tonality on single copper plates. Her intricate, surreal works—frequently depicting horses, dancers, and fluid landscapes—gained wide international acclaim and earned places in major private and corporate collections worldwide.
