Functional Swiza Brass Cylindrical 8 Day Alarm Clock. Likely made in the mid 20th Century, before the shift to quartz movements, making this a rarer collectible, and its working status indicates the exceptional quality of the Swiss maker.
Size: 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 in.
Founded in 1904 by Louis Schwab in Delémont, Switzerland, Swiza began as a specialist manufacturer of mechanical movements. Following World War I they established the Leve-Toi department to focus on producing modernist alarm clocks that gained instant popularity, and officially registered the name Swiza in 1935. Known for high-quality, 1-day, and later 8-day mechanical brass table clocks starting in 1959, the company became a leading Swiss clock manufacturer, fully transitioning to quartz mechanisms by 1976. They acquired Matthew Norman in 1991, but following a 2006 sale and subsequent 2009 takeover by Helvetica Brands, Swiza diversified into designing modern Swiss pocket knives in 2015, and continues to honor its clockmaking heritage with innovative new miniature and portable clock designs.
