Established in Paris in 1848 by Noël Cailar and Pierre Bayard, Cailar Bayard was a distinguished French silversmithing firm renowned for high-quality flatware and holloware, particularly its "Métallonide" silver plate. Their work often showcased the ornate elegance of the Belle Époque and Louis XV styles, marked by a hallmark featuring the initials "CB" alongside a sun or star symbol. The firm’s reputation for craftsmanship was so significant that it was eventually acquired by the legendary house of Christofle in 1912. Although production under the Cailar Bayard name continued for several decades before ceasing around 1934, their antique pieces remain highly sought after by collectors for their durability, heavy silvering, and historical importance in the evolution of French decorative arts.
