Franklin Carmichael (1890–1945) was a Canadian painter and a founding member of the Group of Seven, known for his sensitive and lyrical depictions of Ontario and northern landscapes. Born in Orillia, Ontario, Carmichael trained at the Ontario College of Art and in Europe, developing a style that combined precise draftsmanship with a modernist approach to color and composition. His work often focused on rivers, forests, and industrial scenes, balancing natural beauty with human presence, and was characterized by a harmonious use of color and rhythm in design. Throughout his career, Carmichael contributed significantly to Canadian art, both through his paintings and his work as an art educator, leaving a lasting influence on the development of landscape painting in Canada.
