Frank Gallo (1933–2019) was an American sculptor renowned for his expressive depictions of the human form, particularly his stylized portrayals of women. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Gallo studied at the University of Toledo, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and the University of Iowa, later earning his M.F.A. He began his academic career in 1960 as a professor of sculpture at the University of Illinois. Gallo's work is characterized by its use of materials such as polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass, creating a viscous finish that enhances the sensuality of his figures. His sculptures often depict elongated, reclining women in poses suggesting introspection or self-absorption, conveying a sense of quiet eroticism. Gallo's art has been exhibited in prestigious venues, including the Venice Biennale in 1968, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His contributions to the field were recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, and his works are held in collections at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
