Françoise Mayeras was born in 1942 in France, and spent much of her twenties and thirties traveling the world studying folk art, eventually settling on a houseboat along the Seine River where she crafted totems and idols from papier-mâché. However, in 1991 her barge-workshop sank, and most of her early work was destroyed, leading her to work first with cement and then found driftwood and burled pieces from nearby forests starting in 1995. In the 2000s she began incorporating bronze and more materials to create unique abstract sculptural forms, and she held her first exhibition at Galerie Daniel Amourette in Rouen in 2011. Since then she has been part of group exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Greece, and most recently in the United States.
