Francis Stillwell Dixon (1879–1967) was an American Impressionist painter celebrated for his evocative landscapes and seascapes. Born in Queens, New York, he studied at the Art Students League of New York under prominent artists such as Frank Vincent DuMond, Robert Henri, and Charles W. Hawthorne. Throughout his career, Dixon traveled widely, painting scenes in California, Bermuda, Europe, and along the New England coast, and exhibited frequently in New York City and beyond. His work is noted for its romantic mood, capturing atmospheric effects, shifting light, and a poetic sense of place. A longtime member of the Salmagundi Club and other art societies, Dixon’s paintings remain in both public and private collections, valued for their quiet lyricism and classic Impressionist style.
