Fly Fishing For Salmon, Trout, Grayling, Hamilton 1884. This angling book is titled "Recollections Of Fly Fishing For Salmon, Trout, And Grayling, With Notes On Their Haunts, Habits, And History", by Edward Hamilton, M.D., F.L.S. &c, illustrated with a mezzotint frontis engraving by Francis Seymour Haden, Esq., And Other Woodcuts. It was published in London by Sampson, Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington at the Crown's Building on Fleet Street in 1884, and it is a first edition, according to WorldCat. The book has bevelled edges, gilt lettering on the spine, gilt lettering and a gilt decoration on the front cover, blank endpapers, a half-title, the frontis mezzotint of a salmon pool, then the title page, a four-page Preface, one page of Contents, a list of Illustrations, 190 pages of text, and the gilt decoration on the front cover is similar to the square design on the title page, which depicts fish laying on top of each other, as if they'd been caught and placed there. In addition to the frontispiece, there are six-full-paged woodcuts, the printer's name (Chiswick Press) on the last leaf at the end, and Sampson Low's colophon embossed on the back cover. The author was a medical doctor who wrote of his forty years of fishing experiences here, primarily in the British Isles. He also referred to angling in California and Prince Edward Island, off the coast of Canada, and he wrote another book titled "The Riverside Naturalist", published by Sampson Low in 1890, about riverside flora and fauna. The book is 8vo. and measures 7 3/4 x 5 3/8 in. wide , with a tight binding except for the front gutter, which is a bit loose and has exposed webbing, the pages are rather clean, with occasional brown spots, the frontis and woodcuts are very clean, there are bumps and wear on the heel and crown of the spine, light rubbing on the edge of the spine, with a thread sticking out on the left edge, there is wear at the tips, the tips are turned in, and the spine has a slight roll to it. Still an interesting book about angling for salmon, trout and grayling, one of the most beautiful fresh water fish you can find. #132 #1592
