Artist Biography:
Fernand Léger (1881–1955) was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker who played a significant role in the development of modern art. Born in Argentan, France, Léger is best known for his bold use of color and geometric forms, contributing to the Cubist movement while developing his distinctive style, often referred to as "Tubism" due to his emphasis on cylindrical shapes. His work frequently explored the themes of modernity, technology, and the dynamics of urban life, as seen in pieces like *The City* (1919) and *Contrast of Forms* (1913). Léger's influence extended beyond painting, impacting architecture, design, and cinema, making him a key figure in the avant-garde art scene of the early 20th century.
