Felix Varla (1903-1986) O/C Figural Farm Painting (1903-1986) O/C Figural Farm Painting. A 1959 newspaper in Montreal, giving a description of his works being shown at the time in a local gallery, described his use of "fairy tale colors of Byzantine romance and icons". His subjects include harvest/farm scenes, bathers, fishermen, woodmen and other rural peoples at their crafts, ports, and still life. Purchased at Galerie Drouant Paris France 1960. Main exhibitions of Felix Varlamishvili's paintings in France: 1947 Galerie Roux Henscheul. 1959 Galerie Drouant, Galerie des Beaux-Arts de France. 1976 Galerie Forum Art Monte Carlo. Overall Size: 27 x 32 in. Sight Size: 21 x 25 in. #7005 . Felix Varlamishvili is known for Figure, genre painting. Born in 1903 in Georgia, his father, Grigol Varlamishvili, was a prominent financier and public figure. Felix was good at painting and at playing the piano, violin and harp. He was also keen on poetry. The artist's mother, Rosa Paliashvili, was a highly virtuous and honorable woman, skilled in needlework. She died at an early age, leaving Felix in her sister's care. in 1928, the painter traveled abroad to enhance his knowledge. First he arrived in Istanbul, worked there for a while and afterwards went to Paris, where painters from various countries gathered. At first, Varlamishvili worked in the famous Atelier de Regel for around two years. In 1933, he displayed his paintings for the first time in a small gallery of Paris called Speranza (Hope). In 1934 he married a Danish painter Zire Binder. In 1945 Varlamishili joined the Salon d'Automne on a permanent basis. Soon he became a jury member and could exhibit his paintings hors concourse.
