Size: 9 x 12 in.
Erik Jacobsen is a master draftsman who draws the figure-both from life and from found images-with striking fluidity and compassion. His most
recent paintings assemble groups of people that Erik has encountered in his daily meanderings, whether on the streets of San Francisco or in
newspapers and magazines. Jacobsen uses his sketchbook as a point of departure, assembling a cast of characters for a script the viewer is
allowed to create. Various characters are pulled from his experience and brought together in the space of the panel, to poignant or humorous
effect.
Interested in striking a balance between the spontaneity of his sketches and the control of more highly developed oil paintings, Erik employs ink,, pencil, and paint to respond to each of his subjects' expressions and foibles. As they jostle together in his compositions, these unlikely groupings of figures suggest the rich collision of lives that takes place every day on the sidewalks, in plazas, or on city buses.
Erik Jacobsen was born in Atlanta, GA. With two professional musicians as parents, he was exposed to the to the arts at a very young age. After
high school he moved to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art College, earning his BFA in 2002.
