Artist Biography:
Emanuel Romano (1897–1984) was an Italian-born American painter and sculptor known for his expressive and modernist style. Born in Rome as Emanuel Glicenstein, he was the son of renowned sculptor Enrico Glicenstein, and his early exposure to art heavily influenced his career. Romano emigrated to the United States in the 1920s, where he became known for his vivid portraits, landscapes, and genre scenes. His work often explored themes of human emotion and social issues, marked by bold colors and dynamic compositions. In addition to painting, Romano taught art and contributed to the cultural life of the Jewish community in the U.S. His works are held in collections worldwide, including the Glicenstein Museum in Israel, established in his father's honor.
