Elizabeth O'Neill Verner (1883–1979) was an American artist and printmaker best known for her sensitive portrayals of life and architecture in the American South, particularly in Charleston. Trained as a painter and later renowned for her etchings and pastels, Verner documented historic buildings, gardens, street vendors, and the daily rhythms of Charleston at a time when much of the city’s historic character was at risk of disappearing. Her work combined careful draftsmanship with a warm, atmospheric style that captured the charm and cultural heritage of the region. Widely exhibited and collected during her lifetime, Verner played an important role in preserving the visual history of Charleston and is considered one of the most significant artists associated with the Charleston Renaissance.
