Elaine Hruska is a pastel artist whose lifelong passion for art was shaped by extensive international travel and a deep appreciation for nature. While building a successful import-export business, she pursued evening studies at the Art Students League and Cooper Union in New York City, later refining her skills through workshops with nationally recognized pastel artists. Her frequent travels, especially to Japan, profoundly influenced her artistic philosophy, drawing inspiration from Shintoism’s reverence for nature and its spiritual energy. Known for her rich color palette and Impressionist-inspired layering technique, she captures not only the beauty but also the “personality” of landscapes in her vibrant pastels. Her works are held in collections worldwide, and after settling in Charleston, she became active in its art community, serving as President of the Charleston Artist Guild. Hruska is also a proud member of the prestigious Pastel Society of America.
