California coast at sunset, signed lower right and dated 1905. Edward Wilson Currier was born in Marietta, Ohio, the son of lithographer Charles Jacob Currier and nephew of Nathaniel Currier of Currier & Ives. Working in oil and watercolor, his subjects include landscapes, coastal scenes, still life, views of San Francisco, and an occasional seascape. Much of his early work was lost in the earthquake and fire of 1906.
