Edward Povey (B. 1951) English, Oil on Canvas. Titled "Interior With Figures" Dated July 1997 Although having endless art accolades we chose to describe the artist from the perspective of Professor Eric Sunderland the person who commissioned him to paint the schools room size mural at University of wales at bangor in 1992. This is what he wrote: Edward Povey. As Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales at Bangor in 1992, I commissioned Edward Povey to paint the Hall of Illusion mural. Since those first meetings with him I have been impressed by his total dedication to por- traying his concepts and views of the world about him, particularly in immensely compelling monumental human figures. A great deal of our conscious awareness of living involves interaction with other human beings - their loves, hopes, desires, inadequacies, sadness and joy and in exploring these and other aspects of human experience, Edward Povey strikes a resonating chord in all of us. His figures are ourselves, our families, friends, neighbours and public figures interpreted in some instances at least in ways different from our own, but nonetheless evocative, thoughtful and profound. Monumental they may be, but again they are sensitive to variations in mood and emotive state and his powers of depiction in a remarkable manner transcend the limitations of space, dimension, colour and tone inherent in all works of art. His output is of course influenced by that of other great artists and by his own life experiences, but has a distinctiveness and a powerful quality which renders it unique. As his experiences in life diversify and his skill as an artist continues to develop, I am sure that even more insightful works will be produced and they will be anticipated with great interest. Professor Eric Sunderland OBE Overall Size: 23 x 29 in. Sight Size: 15 1/4 x 21 1/2 in. Frame Thickness: 1 1/2 in. #4753
