Founded in 1858 by Edward Howard following the failure of the Boston Watch Company, E. Howard & Co. established itself in Roxbury, Massachusetts, as a premier manufacturer of luxury American timepieces and clocks. Howard soon assumed sole control of the firm, pioneering unique watch designs, precision regulators, marine clocks, and tower clocks renowned for their exceptional quality. Despite several corporate reorganizations and Howard’s retirement in 1882, the brand remained a titan of horology throughout the 19th Century. The company’s watchmaking rights and clockmaking divisions eventually split in the early 20th Century, with the watch name being acquired by the Keystone Watch Case Company and later Hamilton. Meanwhile, the clockmaking side transitioned through various corporate entities, including Howard Clock Products, while maintaining its reputation for high-grade gear cutting and precision clockwork. Following periods of financial turmoil and ownership changes in the late 20th Century, the legacy of E. Howard & Co. survives today under private ownership, with its vintage astronomical regulators and historic timepieces fetching record sums among modern collectors.

Inner workings are disconnected and need to be reattached, but all present. No winding key.
