A very large lovely impressionist oil on canvas by Dorothea Litzinger, signed Litzinger in the lower left. It Is titled “Still life Flowers in Vase” and is bursting with cheerful flowers, on a windowsill framed with wisteria, and sailboats off in the distance. This painting was acquired from a Connecticut dealer with provenance from Dartmouth College, donated by an estate.
Litzinger is an artist best known for her paintings of flowers, she also painted landscapes, decorative screens, and panels. Born in Pennsylvania, studied at the Pratt Institute in New York and the National Academy of Design. Her decorative paintings have been referred to as an expression of herself in the generosity of their color and richness of design. An artist of intelligence and promise, whose life was shorted by a brief bout of pneumonia at the age of 36.
Has been relined.
