In the early 1960s, Walt Disney, who had chain-smoked since the age of thirteen, set his Imagineers on a seemingly impossible task: make all record of his smoking disappear from the archival photos throughout the theme park. Concerned that his daughter might take up the habit, and that it would be a bad influence on the thousands of children now enchanted by his cartoons and his "Uncle Walt" image, this request resulted in hardly any images remaining with a cigarette in his hand, despite the fact that he was seldom without one, even as lung cancer eventually consumed him. This ash tray is truly a rare find, as it most likely was made before his crusade, and would have been removed from the gift shops at his command, or perhaps was only available in the hotels or facilities surrounding the park.
Commensurate with age.
