Dennis Luken was born in 1955 in Ontario, Canada. He developed an interest in art in his final year at Governor Simcoe High School, and studied oil painting and other mediums at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 1977. He worked as a freelance commercial artist for two decades before taking a trip to Florida, where he fell in love with the coastal beaches, wildlife, and seaside views. He moved to Nokomis in 1999, where he set up a home studio and has sold his tranquil watercolor scenes ever since.
