David Law (1831–1901) Scotland, Colored Etching Print. Titled "The Spanish Armada". 19th century colored etching print of a pitched naval battle with the Spanish armada. Described and titled along bottom. Attributed to David Law lower right. Framed.

​David Law (1831–1901) was a Scottish painter and etcher renowned for his evocative landscapes and cityscapes. Born in Edinburgh, he began his artistic journey as an apprentice to a steel engraver before studying at the Trustees' Academy under Alexander Christie and Emslie Dallas. Law spent two decades engraving maps for the Ordnance Survey Office, a period that honed his meticulous attention to detail. In his forties, he transitioned fully into the art world, relocating to London and exhibiting at prestigious institutions like the Royal Academy. As a founding member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, Law played a pivotal role in the etching revival of the late 19th century. His works, characterized by their atmospheric quality and technical precision, continue to be celebrated in collections such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the British Museum.
