David Goldhagen (Born 1957) American, Swirled Art Glass Sculpture with Metal Stand. The large oval pod-like form is awash with reds, pinks, blues, purples, and orange hues, with in irregular opening in the top and a specially designed curvaceous base to hold it up and support it. Signed and dated 9/97 near the foot on the back of the piece, along with a serial number and illegible title.

David Goldhagen was born in Miami, Florida in 1957 and was fascinated with art glass from a young age, taking his first glassblowing class at Tulane University while pursuing a Bachelor’s in English. He went on to study at the Penland School of Craft and Pilchuck Glass School, settling in Hayesville, North Carolina to create his own glass studio, Goldhagen Art Glass, in 1979. Today his abstract flowing sculptures and colorful functional forms can be found in collections across the country, including at the Asheville Art Museum, the Tucson Museum of Art, and the American Craft Museum of New York.
