Dale Chihuly (B. 1941) USA, Art Glass Sculpture. 'Ruby Machia with Cobalt Lip Wraps'. 'Magnificent Seven Number Seven -A Glass Masterwork. The seventh and final piece in our Magnificent Seven by Dale Chihuly. While for some it’s easy to become complacent with genius and fall victim to the sin of taking for granted the privilege of presenting great art, that’s not in our genes or pedigree at Sarasota Estate Auction. And surely that’s not in Andrew Ford’s makeup. Ford and SAE are forever grateful for the opportunity to present, well frankly, great art. And Dale Chihuly is all that and more. That’s why it gives us great pleasure and is an honor to present a little bit of his story. And what a story this man named Chihuly spins, as he takes another spin around the bright orange sun – a color that the artist knows, loves, appreciates and is inspired by. To those who say that Chihuly is just another artist working in glass, is like saying Sinatra is just another singer. They miss the point entirely. Preposterous, their inclination, an insult to the work and a failure to see an original genius in action. The final piece in Magnificent Seven by Chihuly is titled Ruby Macchia with Cobalt Lip Wrap circa 2004; Possibly a Portland Press Prototype. This Chihuly work is a delight in craft and color. Exquisite in its execution. A visual delight for the senses. And while there are many artists who work in glass, there is only one Dale Chihuly. And what better place to end than with a few reflections from the Glass Maestro and the part he’s played creating a world of brilliant and bold art. “Glass is the most magical of all materials. It transmits light in a special way...I’m pleased that my art appeals to so many people of all ages. As a parent and an artist, I’m especially looking forward to leaving a legacy at The Children’s Museum, a place where I hope my work brings joy to children who visit from all over the world. I never met a color I did not like.” Size: 11 1/2 x 10 x 5 1/2 in. #1616 Location O6
