Susannah Margaretta “Daisy” Makeig-Jones (1881-1945) was a renowned English pottery designer who worked for the legendary Wedgwood company in the early 20th Century. Joining the firm as an apprentice painter in 1909, she quickly defied industry norms as a female artisan and rose to become a lead designer by 1914. She achieved her greatest fame with the launch of the iconic “Fairyland Lustre” series in 1915, featuring whimsical landscapes filled with fairies, goblins, and mythical creatures. Characterized by rich iridescent glazes, jewel tones, and opulent gold-painted details, her fantastical Art Nouveau designs defined the British Fantasy Aesthetic from World War I through the Roaring Twenties. Though shifting Art Deco trends and economic downturns led to her retirement in 1931, her unique, highly decorative lusterware remains prized by collectors worldwide today.
