Clyde Butcher (born 1942) is an American photographer best known for his dramatic black-and-white images of wilderness landscapes, particularly the wetlands of Everglades National Park in Florida. Often compared to the tradition of Ansel Adams, Butcher works with large-format cameras to produce highly detailed photographs that emphasize light, texture, and the natural beauty of swamps, forests, and waterways. After personal tragedy in the 1980s, he moved to South Florida and began focusing intensely on the Everglades, creating images that helped raise public awareness about the region’s fragile ecosystem. His work has been widely exhibited and collected, and he is recognized for both his artistic contributions and his advocacy for environmental conservation.
