Clamdiggers are individuals who harvest clams from coastal mudflats, estuaries, and beaches, often working at low tide when the shoreline is exposed. Using tools like rakes, shovels, or their bare hands, they search for clams buried beneath the sand or mud, relying on skill, knowledge of tidal patterns, and an understanding of the habitat. Clamming can be done recreationally or commercially, with the latter requiring licenses and adherence to regulations that protect clam populations and marine ecosystems. It's labor-intensive, messy work, but for many, it's a tradition passed down through generations and a way of life tied closely to coastal communities and the rhythms of the sea.
