Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic these charming folk-style pieces have been harder and harder to find, reflecting the simple beauty of island life and the homes that make Nantucket so iconic.

Claire Murray was born in 1942 and raised on the Olympic peninsula of Washington state, where her creative talents were allowed to flourish and be inspired by both the natural beauty and simple village life all around her. She studied printmaking and sculpting at the National Academy of Fine Arts in New York City, and discovered weaving and yarns while running a bed-and-breakfast on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts. She spent part of the 1980s in China studying rug hooking before returning to acquire the Nantucket Needleworks and convert it into a shop selling her handmade rugs around the world. At its peak, her empire included twelve retail stores throughout New England with over a hundred employees and eight thousand stores throughout the country carrying her products, but since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic most of her sales have moved online.
