Necessity is the mother of invention, and this artist used whatever they had at hand to create this beautiful work. Cigar box lids have been used frequently for artwork since the introduction of the humidor, but it was most prevalent between the 18th and early 20th Centuries, before growing medical knowledge of the detrimental effects of smoke inhalation on the body led to the decline of smoking and the many industries built around the practice.
