Rick Wolfryd, who works under the artistic name CHROMA, is an American-born contemporary artist, writer, and former art dealer whose multidisciplinary practice bridges Pop Art, digital experimentation, and collaborative craft traditions. Based in Mexico City since 2009, Wolfryd is especially recognized for his vibrant “ALTERATION ART” series, which combines contemporary sculptural forms with intricate Huichol-style glass beadwork created in collaboration with Mexican artisans. Drawing inspiration from decades of digital pixelation experiments, he explores the visual parallels between pixels and bead patterns, producing works that merge technology, popular culture, and indigenous artistic traditions. In addition to his studio practice, Wolfryd co-founded the influential Wolfryd-Selway Fine Art gallery (now Hamilton-Selway Fine Art) and has spent more than four decades contributing to the contemporary art world as both an artist and curator, with a continuing focus on cultural exchange, innovation, and collectible mixed-media sculpture.
