Chinese Temple Bell in Carved Rosewood Frame. Decorative bronze bell featuring etched dragon motifs, suspended within an intricately hand-carved wooden frame shaped like a pagoda.

Size: 16 1/2 x 9 3/4 x 4 in. 

 

Chinese temple bells are traditional bronze instruments used in Buddhist and Daoist temples for ritual, meditation, and marking the passage of time, valued for their deep, resonant tones and symbolic meaning. Often cast with inscriptions, sacred motifs, or images of figures such as Buddha, these bells are struck from the outside rather than swung, producing a sustained, calming sound believed to aid focus and spiritual awareness. Their forms and casting techniques developed over centuries, with some of the most famous examples dating back to imperial periods, reflecting both religious devotion and advanced metallurgical skill.
