Chinese Tang Dynasty Sancai Glazed Pottery Camel Statue on Buff Base. This unique piece includes Asian style saddlebags and features, indicating how these exotic beasts captured the imagination of potters in the Far East during the heyday of the silk trade routes. 

Condition: Minor chips commensurate with age. 

Size: 15 1/2 x 11 x 20 in. 

Sancai, meaning “three colors,” is a vibrant Chinese lead-glazed pottery style, developed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), and famously known for its rich green, amber/yellow, and creamy white glazes that often mingle and drip, used for tomb figurines (like horses and camels) and vessels, showcasing the era’s cosmopolitan flair and trade connections.
