Chinese Tang Style Ceramic Horse Sculpture. Tang-style ceramic sculpture of a saddled horse in a prancing pose, featuring a weathered, earth-toned glaze and standing on a rectangular integral base.

Condition: Broken ear. Flaked paint. 

Size: 15 1/4 x 15 x 6 in. 

Tang-style horse sculptures, most famously from the Tang dynasty, are celebrated for their dynamic realism and cosmopolitan flair. Often made of earthenware and finished with vibrant *sancai* (three-color) glazes, these figures depict sturdy, high-spirited horses with arched necks and expressive faces, reflecting the importance of cavalry, trade, and foreign influence along the Silk Road. Many were created as tomb figurines, symbolizing wealth, power, and the elite lifestyle of the deceased, while also showcasing the artistic sophistication of Tang artisans.
