Chinese Qing Dynasty Style Official's Hat. Black velvet Qing-style official’s hat featuring embroidered gold dragons, a red fringed crown, and a peacock feather plume, topped with a decorative beaded finial.
Size: 9 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 8 in.
During the Qing dynasty, Chinese officials wore distinctive hats known as guanmao that signaled rank and authority. These typically featured a rounded crown with a finial (often a colored knob) on top, whose material and color—such as coral, sapphire, or gold—indicated the wearer’s position within the bureaucracy. In summer, officials wore lighter hats made of woven rattan, while in winter they switched to fur-trimmed versions for warmth. A peacock feather plume, granted by the emperor as a mark of honor, could also be attached, making the hat not just practical but a highly visible symbol of status and imperial favor.
