Chinese cloisonne "Imperial Dragon" bowl, the white exterior with blue five-claw dragons protecting Pearl of Wisdom. On interior above a row of stylized waves, the interior with a five-claw dragon coiled around the flaming pearl, in rank badge manner. The underside with inlaid maker's mark. The bowl is has ruyi "as you wish" (continuous cloud pattern) at the top and bottom. It is said that 5,000 years ago the Yellow Emperor wielded a legendary sword, and after winning an epic battle against Chi You, he named his weapon “Ruyi,” implying that, literally “as wished” (rúyì), he was victorious in protecting the nation and establishing a culture that would last up to the present.
