Chinese cloisonné, known as jingtailan, is a decorative enamel technique that flourished during the Ming dynasty, especially under the Xuande and Jingtai emperors. Artisans shaped copper vessels and soldered thin metal wires onto the surface to form intricate patterns, then filled the compartments (cloisons) with vividly colored enamel before firing and polishing the piece. The result is a richly textured object marked by brilliant blues, reds, and greens, often featuring motifs like dragons, lotus flowers, and clouds, reflecting both imperial taste and symbolic meaning in Chinese art.
