Kuanyin, also known as Guanyin or Kannon, is a revered figure in East Asian Buddhism, representing compassion and mercy. As the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Kuanyin is venerated for embodying the boundless compassion of all Buddhas, often depicted as a female figure, although the deity can also appear in various forms. Kuanyin is believed to hear the cries of suffering beings and assists them, symbolizing the ideal of compassion in Mahayana Buddhism. The name "Kuanyin" means "One Who Hears the Cries of the World," highlighting the deity's role in responding to the pleas of those in distress. Kuanyin is a popular and beloved figure in many Asian cultures, with numerous temples and statues dedicated to her.
