Chinese blue and white porcelain is one of the most iconic and globally recognized forms of Chinese ceramic art, celebrated for its crisp cobalt blue designs painted under a translucent white glaze. First perfected during the Yuan Dynasty (1279–1368) and reaching its height in the Ming (especially under the Xuande Emperor) and Qing dynasties, this porcelain was both a domestic treasure and a major export commodity. The rich blue pigment, originally imported from Persia, was used to depict everything from dragons and phoenixes to floral motifs, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life with remarkable precision and fluidity. Prized for its beauty, durability, and artistry, blue and white porcelain helped define global perceptions of Chinese craftsmanship and became highly influential across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond, inspiring centuries of imitation and admiration.
