This finely executed etching is titled "Church Doorway in Snow" and signed "Childe Hassam" in bottom right. Hassam became one of America's most noted Impressionist painters, but never labeled himself that way, because he was more interested in the emotional content of his paintings than the technique of applying color. He completed over 350 etchings and drypoints and about 45 lithographs in his lifetime, mostly after he was 56 years old. Watercolor was another specialty of his, and he was one of the founders of the New York Water Color Society. Overall size: 15 1/2 x 13 3/4 in. Sight size: 7 x 5 1/2 in.
