Charlotte Kaufman (nee King) was born on December 5th, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. During World War II she worked as an administrative assistant at the Baltimore Coliseum, and met and married her husband Albert Kaufman there when he played basketball for the Baltimore Bullets in 1946. She worked as the Director of Public Relations for the Baltimore Jewish Community Center from 1962 to 1967, where she was first exposed to art through classes offered there. She received her Bachelors from the private liberal arts Goucher College in 1969, and then attended Johns Hopkins University where she obtained a Masters in Public Health in 1972 and in Education in 1976. She spent her career as a higher education administrator, advocating for art programs. She became a member of the American Public Health Association, American Association for Higher Education, American Association Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, as well as becoming Vice President of the Artists Equity Association Maryland chapter from 1988 to 1990. After retiring in 1995 she and her husband moved to Palm Desert, California, where she opened her own art studio. She had been on the Maryland Printmakers Executive Board from 1989 to 1994, and joined the Palm Springs Desert Museum Artists Council Executive Board in 1997. She passed away in 2007, five years after Albert, and her work is on permanent display in several local galleries in honor of her advocacy on the Council.
