Carlton Theodore Chapman (1860 - 1925) American (NY, Cali, Ohio artist). "Brooklyn Navy Yard" oil on canvas, signed in the lower left. Ca. 1894 Disembarkation of US Navy Vessel, Spanish-American War. Exhibited at the 1894 Annual Exhibition at the National Academy of Design #255.
Carlton Chapman is known for Marine, landscape, figure and genre painting. Born in New London, OH on Sept. 18, 1860, Carlton Chapman studied in New York City at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, and in Paris at Académie Julian. He was a resident of Los Angeles in 1912-18.
