Carl Martius (1794-1868) German, Archival Print. Depicts Iriartea deltoidea. Tab 35 in upper right corner. Iriartea Deltoidea is a canopy palm tree native to the Pacific coast rainforests of Central and South America, from Ecuador to Bolivia. It has several common names, including Pacific Copa Palm, Stilt Palm, and Barrigona Palm. Huacrapona is a local name from its place of origin. Size: 24 x 18 in. Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius was a German botanist and explorer. Between 1817 and 1820, he travelled 10,000 km through Brazil while collecting botanical specimens. His most important work was a comprehensive flora of Brazil, Flora Brasiliensis, which he initiated in 1840 and was completed posthumously in 1906. #1967 Location Box 11
