Calvin Canepa was born in 1961 in South Lake Tahoe, California. When he was five years old he was recognized as an artistic prodigy. He had his first solo show the next year when he was in first grade. Throughout his teens he exhibited and developed his style, offering lessons in art at galleries and studios in Carmel and San Francisco. His landscapes and still lifes became extremely popular, winding up in private and corporate collections. After receiving an art scholarship he attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 1979, but found he was already more advanced than many of his fellow classmates in watercolors, oils, and more. Rather than focusing on craft, he began to study art history and theory, which in turn had a profound influence both on his work and philosophy towards art. Today Receiving an art scholarship, he attended the Academy of Art, San Francisco, where he refined his skills while studying art history and theory. Canepa and his family now reside in an area he loves to paint, Placerville, and continues to show his paintings throughout the Bay Area and the Shenandoah Valley.
