Byron Gálvez Avilés (1941–2009) was a Mexican painter, sculptor, draftsman, and printmaker born in Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo. He studied at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City under prominent artists including Luis Nishizawa, Santos Balmori, and Francisco Moreno Capdevila, later developing a distinctive style of abstract figuration centered on the human figure, particularly the female form. His prolific career encompassed painting, drawing, sculpture, and monumental public art, and he exhibited widely in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Among his most celebrated achievements is “Homenaje a la Mujer del Mundo,” the monumental mosaic covering the plaza of Parque David Ben Gurión in Pachuca, Hidalgo, which reflects his enduring interest in color, geometry, movement, and large-scale artistic expression.
