This is an oil-on-board by Burr Nicholls, a landscape painter from Buffalo, New York, who was also known for his studies of old Venice and barnyard fowl. It's titled "Sand Dunes" on the verso and has a brass plate with his name on it on the front. It's signed "Burr H Nicholls" in the lower right part of the image. Nicholls studied art in Buffalo and Paris and was a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists. The overall size is 10 1/2 x 14 in. wide and the sight size is 4 3/8 in. x 7 3/4 in. wide.
