Britains Die-Cast Model of Elizabeth II Coronation Gold State Coach and 8 Horses. 4 of the horses are ridden, meaning 4 other figures are now missing from the original set, and the Queen and her Consort can be taken out of the coach. This was likely made around 1953 to tie in to her coronation, a very popular piece at the time. The whole piece has been attached to a long acrylic base.

Britains, originally founded as W. Britain in 1893 by William Britain Jr., is a British toy brand famous for die-cast toy soldiers, agricultural models, and figurines. Britain revolutionized toy production by inventing hollow-cast lead soldiers, quickly making the company an industry leader and inspiring competitors. Incorporated as Britains Ltd in 1907, the company expanded to hundreds of sets, producing millions of models annually, and later diversified into die-cast vehicles and plastic figures, acquiring Herald Miniatures in 1959 and introducing Deetail and New Metal ranges in the 1970s. Rising safety regulations and costs ended lead production in 1966, shifting much manufacturing overseas, while the focus gradually moved toward collectors’ items. The Britain family sold the company in 1984, and it changed hands several times, ultimately becoming part of Ertl, then RC2, and now Japanese company Tomy, which continues the Britains brand, while the original W. Britain line was acquired by First Gear, Inc. in 2016.
