Bottega Veneta is an Italian luxury fashion house based in Milan, Italy. Its product lines include ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, accessories, jewelry and fragrances. Bottega Veneta’s main atelier is located in Montebello, Vicenza. Bottega Veneta was established in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. Specialized in artisanal leather goods, the brand developed a distinctive leather weaving technique, the Intrecciato, which became Bottega Veneta’s signature look. In 1972 Bottega Veneta opened its first store in New York City. In the mid 1970s the company started to make shoes, but Zengiaro left the company shortly thereafter, and Taddei handed over the company to his ex-wife Laura Braggion. Braggion and her second husband Vittorio Moltedo ran the company together, initiating an international push to build their reputation with advertisements by Andy Warhol and endorsements by famous Hollywood actresses. During the 1990s Bottega Veneta launched its first ready-to-wear collection, created by head designer Edward Buchanan. In February 2001 Gucci, a subsidiary of Kering, acquired Bottega Veneta for $156 million. Patrizio di Marco was appointed CEO and Tomas Maier Creative Director. In 2002 the brand launched a fashion jewelry line, followed by a fine jewelry line in 2006. By 2005, the company was in the black again, and in 2009 Marco Bizzarri took over as CEO. In 2011 they launched their first women’s fragrance, Eau de Parfum, and Vogue coined the term “stealth wealth” to describe the brand’s evolving style. Over the next decade the company expanded exponentially, but suffered after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kering worked hard to fortify the brand, and in 2023 Bottega Veneta’s revenue reached a new landmark of 1.6 billion euros annually.
