Boris B. Major (born Berko Mesherowsky, 1876–1951) was a Russian-born American landscape and cityscape painter who studied art in Russia and at the Academy of Art in Munich before immigrating to the United States in 1906. After gaining U.S. citizenship in 1911, he adopted the name Boris Major and built a steady career producing oil paintings and watercolors, often realistic landscapes or architectural views, many of which were widely distributed through reproductions. Around 1929–1930, he and his wife traveled across Europe and North Africa, creating a large body of plein-air work capturing vibrant cities, light, and color. Major described himself as a realist, painting houses as they appeared, skies blue, and trees green, avoiding stylization or exaggerated hues. Today his works are valued by collectors for their traditional landscapes, city scenes, and harmonious balance of light and realism.
