Robert “Bob” Wilfong was born in 1948 in Clarkston, Washington. He showed no artistic interest in his youth, nor during his college years when he studied biology and anatomy. After marrying his wife Jo he became a banker, a job he held until 1992 when, frustrated by his inability to find a bronze sculpture of a penguin for her collection, he decided to create one of his own. By the following year he was sculpting wildlife figures and earning high praise from local galleries, and he quit his job to focus on art full-time. In 1998 he moved into creating contemporary figurative and abstract designs, and he and Jo began to work collaboratively, with Bob focused on sculpture and Jo focused on graphic design, photography, and managing his career and commissions. Self-taught and possessing a keen work ethic, he continues to produce new pieces to this day at his home studio, with corporate, public, and private monumental bronzes in collections in dozens of states as well as Australia and Mexico.
