Bill Mack, born September 25, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, developed an early interest in painting and sculpture, working as a freelance artist before finishing high school. He studied journalism and art history at the University of Minnesota, and in his senior year began creating full-round artworks and painted relief sculptures. After a successful gallery showing in St. Paul, he opened his own studio, producing life-size cast bronze sculptures for the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field, Hazeltine National Golf Club, and various corporate headquarters. In the 1990s, Mack gained national recognition and was commissioned to create pieces for Sports Halls of Fame, with notable works including sculptures of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Harmon Killebrew, Peggy Fleming, and Arthur Ashe. He also designed the Hobey Baker Award and led a five-year campaign to save and restore the original "H" from the Hollywood sign. Mack continues to create portraits and commissions for galleries like Park West and collections worldwide from his home in Minnesota.
