Bill Healy (known throughout the New England art community as “HillBilly”) was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1960, and became interested in art in his childhood, drawing cartoons and comics that were occasionally published in The Hartford Times before he was fifteen. The self-taught artist discovered his ultimate calling while working as an animator for a studio in nearby Canton, where he began combining vintage tins, old appliance parts, and rusty bottle caps to create robotic figures he called “Metalmen.” He continues to produce new pieces at his home in Hartford, and his works have been found in public and private collections around the country, including the Wadsworth Atheneum, the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, and the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.
